Dear Band Teachers, (North)

This year’s SBA/SMEA Junior and Intermediate Band North will be held on Friday, March 8th and Saturday, March 9th, 2019 at Sacred Heart Cathedral (Junior) and École St. Mary High School (Intermediate) in Prince Albert. The Junior and Intermediate Band program is designed to provide an enrichment experience for accomplished young musicians in our province. Students recommended for this program should be motivated and looking to achieve a new level of musical excellence. The north bands include students from the northern half of the province (all school divisions north of Davidson).

For each band please reference the specific details below.

Recommendation criteria for 2018-2019

  • Each band program area may recommend up to five (5) students for participation.
  • Each band program area may recommend a maximum of one (1) student per instrument.
  • Although the planning committee will make every effort to accommodate all students recommended,
    due to space constraints and in consideration for balanced instrumentation, all students recommended
    may not be selected to participate.
  • A recall will be issued if additional participants on certain instruments are required.
  • Each band program area may recommend up to five (5) students for participation.
  • Please recommend students from a variety of instrument sections.
  • Although the planning committee will make every effort to accommodate all students recommended,
    due to space constraints and in consideration for balanced instrumentation, all students recommended
    may not be selected to participate.
  • A recall will be issued if additional participants on certain instruments are required.

Band Teacher Instructions

  1. Please distribute the attached parent/guardian letter and parent/guardian registration form to the students you have selected for recommendation or have them fill out the Participant Application Web Form linked below. *
    It is advisable that completed student forms are collected prior to Christmas break. This is why the deadline for students’ forms to be turned in is earlier than the deadline for teachers’ submissions.
  2. Please complete the attached teacher registration form (one for each student being recommended) or fill out the Teacher Recommendation Web Form linked below (once for each student being recommended).
  3. If using the paper forms: Mail all hard copies of the parent/guardian registration form, teacher registration form, and cheques to – St. Philips School, attn: Lee Adams, 1901 Haultain Ave, Saskatoon, SK, S7J 1P4 – postmarked no later than January 15, 2019. Students will be considered only if both forms are complete, have a cheque attached, and are mailed by January 15, 2019.
  4. If using the Web Forms linked below, the parents will complete payment during their portion of the form application. The Web Forms will be disconnected prior to the deadline – please apply as early as possible.

If you have students who may not be able to participate due to financial considerations and you do not have access to scholarship funds through your school or division, please contact Val Kuemper at the SMEA office to inquire about scholarship possibilities.
